Modular connectors, also referred to as Ethernet connectors, are a type of connector typically used to connect devices such as computers or modems to an Ethernet network. Modular connectors are designed to be easily attachable and detachable from the device or peripheral. These connectors are usually keyed to one another, meaning that you can't accidentally attach a wrong device that can't work with the other. Modular connectors come in various sizes and styles, with the most common being the RJ-45 Ethernet connector, commonly used to connect computers to networks. The RJ-45 connector consists of 8 pins and is often referred to as an 8P8C connector. Other popular types of modular connectors include fiber optics, USB and co-axial cables.
